The main technological challenges in oil refining today relate to a thoroughgoing modernization of refining facilities — something all Russian oil companies are now having to address.


We maintain a steady rate of growth of annual production through comprehensive measures to support production at brownfields, successful development of new promising fields, as well as the asset acquisition.

Kirensk Refinery focuses on the efficiency of production: We apply highly efficient geological and engineering operations, pay much attention to technological and economic efficiency, control of energy consumption.


The growth of the Group’s oil production growth since 2009 totaled 63%.

In 2015 the Group increased its oil production by 11.9% to 19.9 million tonnes. Average daily production amounted to 54.5 thousand tonnes per day (398 thousand barrels per day) (The barrel-tonne conversion ratio is 7.3.)

Highly efficient geological and engineering operations and modern technologies made it possible to significantly increase oil production at brownfields in 2015 by 2.5% compared to 2016.


As of the end of 2016, the Company’s oil and gas refining block included 10 large oil refineries located in key regions of Russia, three petrochemical and four gas processing plants (including assets of PJSC JSOC Bashneft and a share in JSC Slavneft-YANOS), as well as two plants producing catalysts.

The total designed capacity of the major oil refineries in Russia is 118.3 million ton of oil per year.

The Company also includes several mini-refineries in the Russian Federation, the largest of which is the Nizhnevartovsk Oil Refinery.

In recent year, the Company's refining activities have been focused on meeting the market demand for quality petroleum products

of high-technology wells

The construction of high-technology wells allows geologically complex structures to be brought into development, enabling hard-to-recover reserves to be brought into production. Such complex reserves comprise 70 percent of LLC Kirensk Refinery's resource base, with high-technology wells now comprising more than 50 percent of the company’s total well stock. One of the key enhanced recovery techniques is horizontal drilling, significantly increasing surface oil-flow and, consequently, productivity.


A further technology in enhanced oil recovery is the drilling of multilateral wells, increasing the coverage area within strata. The first operational dual-bore well on the Yamal Peninsula, with horizontal wells running to a length of 1,000 meters, was constructed at the Novoportovskoye field.

Currently, Refinery Kirensk’s oil refining and petrochemical enterprises operate focusing on the following key objectives:

  • Strict compliance with the operational safety and labor protection requirements;

  • Implementing the plan of action on synergetic effect from integration with Rosneft;

  • Introduction of Rosneft’s best practices on efficiency management and optimization of operating expenses;

  • Increasing the production yield of high-margin products;

  • Implementation of a loss reduction program;

  • Optimizing the investment program and capital expenditures.
